New year, new Jellies

Happy New year friends! Welcome to 2012. We spent a good part of our holiday season continuing to make these jellyfish earrings. We made a ton, and sold a ton over the break to customers all over the united states! (One set was even shipped to England!)
They even ended up in a mall in Alabama! We've been blessed so far with the sales we've made, and are enjoying the process of making these pieces of art. It really is a lot of fun to start with just some glass and wire, and end up with a really cool pair of earrings that someone will really treasure. Elizabeth and I really enjoy being creative, and this is a really great outlet for us to use our imaginations. However, were going to need to make another trip back to Hawaii to pick up some more sea glass as our reserves are dwindling.

We had an idea of the break that came to fruition after we found some white plastic rings at a bead store. We wanted to create a more retro 80's feel to some of the jellies. So we came up with these:

We also wanted to make a pair with a more "modern feel". We came up with this:

And lastly, we wanted to use some of the white glass we had found with the bronze metal to create a really elegant feel. Something that would really look like a jellyfish. These are nice because they look more jelly like in the sun due to their white opaque color. Thanks to all how have already picked up a pair this past holiday season! I hope you are enjoying them! Elizabeth is taking these to UCLA tomorrow so I'm not sure what will be left. Its been great, a lot of people have been picking these up this past week for Christmas presents. Jellyfish Earrings!

While in Hawaii, Elizabeth and I came up with a really cool idea. We were visiting family out there and started beach combing the beautiful beaches around the island of Maui. We started finding these really cool pieces of tumbled glass that had been smoothed over many years. As we researched more, we began to find out how rare some of the colors we were finding were. The process to make some of the pieces of glass back in the day were amazing. For instance, red glass was made with a powdered form of gold. Cool right? These are literally little pieces of history that are washing up on hawaiian shores because of the whaling industry that used to be there in Hawaii. The whalers would toss all of their glass bottles overboard to lighten the boat.

As we began to collect these little glowing jewels from the sand, we thought these would make amazing pieces of jewelry. We ran home and began to draw up ideas of how we could make something original with the glass. We ended up with these:Since we've gotten back to California, Elizabeth has been getting huge compliments from everyone. People were stopping her on the streets to admire these things. So, we decided that Id build more (which by the way is a very difficult process) and we would sell them! It takes quite a while to make a set, but its getting a bit easier as Ive already made about 12 sets. Im starting to run out of glass, so well have to make another trip back to hawaii soon to collect more of this historical glass. Ive got quite a few orders as is, but Elizabeth and I are taking the money that we make and saving it for the future. ;) Romantic right? Hey Guys, just thought Id update this ol thing. Im headed off to Disney tommorrow to start my new job there. I will be doing some animation there for a while and I'm really looking forward to it. The childrens book is still making progress, but has been put on hold for the new position.

I finally finished my portrait of the young girl.........Wow, what an undertaking. I also began a commission for Panini Petes, who was recently on TV with "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". Anyways, a few more hours on his piece and it will be finito!

I decided that I would try and limit my color pallete a bit to switch things up. I completed this 18 by 24 in about 2 hours keeping it loose, and energetic. I'm thinking about doing a series of these to begin selling. I like the idea and color pallete, so we'll see what the public thinks. This is in my "neighborhood", my neighbors yard and wheelbarrow. I hope they didnt mind me standing out there..........ha.

NEW LIP SYNC!

These were fun to do, but i realized as i went on to the second piece that i liked its looseness much better. The first was done predominately from a photograph, and the second was painted on site. The first is an 18}{24 and the other is a 20}{20.

I have been painting these once a week. I am experimenting with color and lighting in landscape painting. It has proved to be challenging, but i like the loosness the 30 - 45 minute time frame is producing. Comments welcome as always!

These pieces are all class works so they are done rather quickly. However, i wanted to work this way to see how the speed would affect the outcome. (+ class time is not very long.) These are acrylics and are relatively small. The top one may need some explaining as far as content goes. They are paint brushes in and around a roll of the cheap brown paper towels.
